Zwarte Cross Festival 2014

Like the last years, the Black Cross Festival has a special reggae stage!

I Repeat (singer of Dutch reggaeband Beef) is in charge of the programm and this year Black Star Foundation will be present with Rapha Pico & The Roots Rockers and Black Star Sound!

Other performing artists on the reggae stage are The Dub Factory, Censi Rock, Splendid, Hollie Cook, Fiyah Nation ft Ashwin, Kenny B, Joggo and many more!

Back-A-Wall Movement and Black Star Sound will spin their roots reggae tunes on Friday afternoon, assisted by MC Jahforth and female reggae singer Leah Rosier. Rapha Pico and his band The Roots Rockers will also perform on Friday (from 19:30 till 20:30).

Rapha Pico (Surinam/Holland)
Some people are born with music in their genes, a heritage which will guide their future life no matter what. Raphael is like that, a young singer with lots of talent.

Splendid (The Netherlands)
Splendid brings a new definition of reggae: Rocksteady Sunshine. Relaxed beats, sunny horns and critical lyrics will garantee you a new summersound!

Censi Rock (The Netherlands)
Censi Rock is a young and talented reggae singer from Holland. He is busy making reggae and dancehall music for a while now, at this moment he is working on his debut album, to be expected in April!

Joggo (Surinam/Holland)
Joggo introduced himself to the reggae audience in 2008 after the release off the mixtape Beware. The song Beware (Kingdom riddim) had a huge international impact and peaked at the #2 position in the official German reggae charts for weeks.

Black Star Sound (The Netherlands)
Black Star Sound is a roots reggae sound, based in Amsterdam (Holland). Selector Den-Den loves vinyl and has a huge 7”-single collection. Black Star Sound also has a nice dubplate selection box! On stage Den-Den is often assisted by MC's and talented singers. Besides Jamaican riddims Black Star Sound also plays their own productions.

Back-a-Wall Movement (The Netherlands)
Back-a-Wall Movement is a reggae soundsystem with a positive message. For more than 15 years Papa Hobbol and Remy Rootical are playing their records, strictly vinyl and mostly 7".

Skank Around Sound (The Netherlands)
Skank Around Sound feat. DJ Dab spins his tunes regularly at reggae events and -concerts in The Melkweg (Amsterdam). Besides that, Dab also organizes Reggaebomb (Utrecht).

Keytown Sound (Leiden)
Keytown Sound from Leiden exists of the selectors Martial Ard, Senior and D-Leon with Papa Aya as singjay. They play straight up Roots Reggae and Dancehall, from way back till the present.

United Sounds (The Netherlands)
Soundsystem UnitedSounds is a Roots and Culture reggae-dancehall-sound, founded by RasDré & Sista Taki. They are very active in the reggae business since 1993.

Leah Rosier (The Netherlands)
Leah is a young female reggae artist from Amsterdam (Holland)! She started to write, compose and record her own songs in 2010 and she is already perfoming on different stages, in both Holland and abroad.

Jahforth (Jamaica/Holland)
Jahforth is a Jamaican singer/MC. He is a real 'nyabinghi roots man'. Spiritual influences can be heard when he is on the mic. Since 2014 Jahforth can be seen and heard regularly with Black Star Sound!

Michelle (The Netherlands)
Michelle Boekhout van Solinge is the founder of Black Star Foundation. She is mostly working on management and bookings for artists/bands, (online) promotion, organisation of events and development of new talent. Michelle is also giving musical lectures and is MC for Black Star Sound!
